چکیده

We review some models of granular materials fluidized by means of external forces such as: random homogeneous forcing with viscosity, vibrating plates, flow in an inclined channel and flow in a double well potential. All such systems show the presence of density correlations and non-Gaussian velocity distributions. These models are useful to understand the role of a kinetically defined “temperature” (in this case the so-called granular temperature) in a non-equilibrium stationary state. In the homogeneously randomly driven gas the granular temperature is different from that of the driving bath. Moreover two different granular materials mixed together may stay in a stationary state with different temperatures. At the same time, granular temperature determines (as in equilibrium systems) the escape time from a well in a double well potential. Models of fluidized granular materials 2

Preliminary Assessment of the Morphometry of Martian Impact Crater Ejecta Deposits and their Implications,

We are continuing characterization of the geometry of flow-related features of the fluidized ejecta of fresh Martian craters to be used in concert with dynamical models of granular flow as a basis for developing new models and testing current models of fluidized ejecta emplacement. Granular flow studies have shown great promise for understanding the causes of ejecta flow on Mars [1, 2] because ...

Size separation in vibrated granular matter

We review recent developments in size separation in vibrated granular materials. Motivated by a need in industry to handle granular materials efficiently and a desire to make fundamental advances in non-equilibrium physics, experimental and theoretical investigations have shown size separation to be a complex phenomenon. Large particles in a vibrated granular system normally rise to the top. Ho...

Online Detection of Hydrodynamic Changes in Fluidized Bed using Cross Average Diagonal Line

Online detection of hydrodynamics of gas-solid fluidized bed was characterized using pressure fluctuations by cross recurrence plot (CRP) and cross recurrence quantification analysis (CRQA). Experiments were conducted in a lab scale fluidized bed of various particle sizes 150 μm, 280 μm and 490 μm at different gas velocities. Firstly, pattern changes of cross recurrence plot were discussed and ...

The energy flux into a fluidized granular medium at a vibrating wall

We study the power input of a vibrating wall into a fluidized granular medium, using event driven simulations of a model granular system. The system consists of inelastic hard disks contained between a stationary and a vibrating elastic wall, in the absence of gravity. Two scaling relations for the power input are found, both involving the pressure. The transition between the two occurs when wa...

Order parameter description of stationary partially fluidized shear granular flows.

We carry out a detailed comparison of soft-particle molecular dynamics simulations with the theory of partially fluidized shear granular flows. We verify by direct simulations a constitutive relation based on the separation of the shear stress tensor into a fluid part proportional to the strain rate tensor, and a remaining solid part. The ratio of these two components is determined by the order...
